Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged the international community to take effective and coordinated measures to guarantee the safe, voluntary, and dignified repatriation of the Rohingya population to their homeland in Myanmar.
He delivered the address on Wednesday (September 23, 2026) during a high-level meeting on the Rohingya crisis held on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81) in New York.
In his speech, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman highlighted the unprecedented humanitarian and economic burden Bangladesh faces due to prolonged displacement. He emphasized that rather than relying solely on temporary relief assistance, it is the responsibility of the global community to address the root causes—specifically the denial of basic human rights and political rights in Rakhine State.
The Prime Minister further stressed the critical need to secure justice, citizenship rights, and international accountability for crimes against humanity committed against the Rohingya. The meeting was attended by senior leadership from UN agencies, heads of donor organizations, and high-level diplomatic representatives from partner nations.
