Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman departed Dhaka for Doha on a two-day official visit aimed at mitigating Bangladesh’s ongoing power and gas crisis and securing a stable supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The high-level delegation left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on a special flight early Tuesday (August 18). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs formally confirmed the bilateral visit through an official press release.
Soaring global oil prices coupled with depleting production from domestic gas fields have plunged Bangladesh into severe supply shortages, hitting industrial production and electricity generation hard. In response, the government is prioritizing the review of existing long-term energy agreements with Qatar while negotiating expedited spot market and additional long-term LNG cargoes.
During the visit, the Bangladeshi delegation will participate in bilateral sessions with key officials from Qatar’s energy sector, financial institutions, and investment agencies. Diplomatic analysts emphasize that this joint ministerial outreach will play a pivotal role in stabilizing Bangladesh’s domestic energy landscape in the coming months.
