In a major policy directive aimed at curbing the resurgence of juvenile gang culture, social instability, and violent crime nationwide, the Ministry of Home Affairs has mandated the formation of specialized “Anti-Teen Gang Prevention Committees” across every upazila in Bangladesh.
The official directive was announced on Monday (October 19, 2026) via a press release signed by Faysal Hasan, Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Executive Leadership Structure: Each newly formed upazila committee will be chaired by the respective Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), with the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the local police station acting as Member Secretary.
Integrated Administration and Police Response: By establishing direct institutional coordination between upazila civil administration and police authorities at the grassroots level, the initiative ensures rapid legal and preventive actions against juvenile delinquency.
Targeted Interventions: The committees are tasked with identifying emerging teenage gangs, suppressing narcotics networks, preventing sexual harassment (eve-teasing), and dismantling organized youth crime cells within their respective jurisdictions.
Social Awareness and Reformative Action: Alongside law enforcement measures, the committees will actively engage parents, educational institutions, community leaders, and local civic organizations to implement behavioral counseling and social rehabilitation programs.
