Carrying the momentum of three consecutive Premier League victories under new manager Enzo Maresca, Manchester City opened their European campaign with a convincing win. The Citizens secured three full points in the opening fixture of the 2026–27 UEFA Champions League season by defeating Portuguese side FC Porto 2–0 at the historic Estádio do Dragão.
Despite dominating possession during the first half, the visitors were repeatedly denied by Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa, who made several exceptional saves to keep the match deadlock. However, Manchester City broke the silence early in the second half when Norwegian striker Erling Haaland converted a precise cross from midfielder Enzo Fernández with a clinical header in the 47th minute. Haaland then completed his brace deep into stoppage time (90+1′), finishing off a delivery from Rayan Aït-Nouri to seal the 2–0 victory.
