BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday strongly rejected allegations that his party was backing away from its commitments, accusing certain political opponents of deliberately misleading the public regarding the “July Charter.” He reiterated that the BNP remains fully dedicated to executing every provision mutually agreed upon in the historic document.
Speaking at a memorial meeting held at the Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall of the National Press Club in Dhaka, Fakhrul dismissed rumors of the party’s reluctance as entirely baseless.
Addressing recent rhetoric from various opposition factions, Fakhrul noted, “Some quarters are claiming that if the demand to implement the July Charter is not met in parliament, the issue will be settled on the streets. This narrative is being pushed solely to confuse and mislead the citizens.”
He reminded the audience that all major political parties actively involved in the July 2024 mass uprising had collectively signed the charter. However, the BNP leader drew a firm line on specific structural changes that were recently introduced without consensus.
