Education Minister A. N. M. Ehsanul Hoque Milon has issued a strict directive to immediately halt the collection of illogical and excessive fees from National University students. He emphasized that converting universities into revenue-generating enterprises by charging students exorbitant fees will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The Education Minister made these remarks as the chief guest at the ‘National University Scholarship and Vice Chancellor Award Ceremony’ held at the International Mother Language Institute auditorium in Segunbagicha, Dhaka, on Tuesday (September 15, 2026).
Addressing the audience, the Minister asserted that the current government aims to tackle the nation’s unemployment crisis through pragmatic structural reforms in the education system rather than unfulfilled rhetoric. Highlighting the necessity of overhauling the National University curriculum, he stated, “Given the state of our inherited education system, it is impossible to transform everything overnight in the government’s first seven months, but there is no lack of effort. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is according top priority to the education sector.”
The Minister called upon teachers, researchers, and relevant stakeholders to work collaboratively to modernize the National University’s academic framework to global standards. Following the discussion, the Vice Chancellor Award and scholarships were officially conferred upon 57 meritorious students from 37 affiliated colleges under the National University.
