The Cabinet has approved a three-day government holiday from October 20 to 22, 2026, on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja. However, to compensate for the extended holiday, all government offices will remain open on Saturday, October 17, prior to the festival.
The decision was ratified during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday (October 5, 2026). The Cabinet Division later briefed reporters on the executive decisions.
According to the official holiday calendar and executive orders:
October 20 (Tuesday): Executive holiday for Maha Nabami (previously scheduled).
October 21 (Wednesday): General public holiday for Vijaya Dashami.
October 22 (Thursday): Newly approved executive holiday.
October 23–24 (Friday–Saturday): Regular weekend holidays.
With the addition of the executive holiday on Thursday (October 22), public sector employees will enjoy a 5-day continuous break from October 20 to October 24. To maintain operational administrative balance, offices will observe a full workday on Saturday, October 17.
