To ensure safe, comfortable, and harassment-free commuting for female passengers in the capital, a specialized pink-themed ‘Women’s Bus Service’ is set to launch. Sheikh Robiul Alam, Minister for Road Transport and Bridges, will officially inaugurate the service on Tuesday, August 18, at 10:00 AM at the BRTC Dhaka Truck Depot premises in Tejgaon.
A press release signed by Mostakim Bhuiyan, Public Relations Officer of the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC), confirmed that the launch forms part of the current government’s manifesto implementation program.
This dedicated initiative by BRTC addresses long-standing safety and comfort challenges faced by female commuters on public buses in Dhaka. A defining highlight of the service is the deployment of all-female crews—occupations for both drivers and conductors will be managed exclusively by women. Beyond securing a safer environment for passengers, this move marks a milestone in empowering female employment and professionalism within the nation’s public transit sector.
Passengers and urban transport analysts anticipate that introducing the ‘Pink Bus’ fleet will substantially alleviate the daily commuting hurdles experienced by women across major city routes.
