Right-arm pacer Hasan Mahmud created a spellbinding illusion at Marrara Oval in Darwin with his exquisite swing and seam movement on the red ball. Moving the ball sharply into the batters and nipping it away with subtle late movement, Hasan tormented the hosts to claim a career-best 6 for 55. In doing so, he scripted history as the first Bangladeshi bowler to take a five-wicket haul on Australian soil.
Driven by Hasan’s fierce bowling display, Australia were bowled out for just 198 runs in their first innings. Alongside Hasan, Ebadot Hossain—returning from injury—and the experienced Taskin Ahmed delivered exceptional support spells. Steve Smith top-scored for the hosts with a resilient 71.
After winning the toss and opting to bat, Australia made a cautious start. While Taskin was slightly erratic early on, Hasan and Ebadot hit precise channels right away.
First Session (Weatherald & Head Fall): In the 12th over, Hasan struck first as Australian opener Jake Weatherald edged a moving delivery behind to the wicketkeeper. Right after the first drinks break, Travis Head (22) was clean-bowled by a sharp in-swinger from Hasan. Taskin and Ebadot struck late in the session to hand Bangladesh total control.
Second Session (Smith-Carey Stand Broken): Ebadot broke a threatening partnership between Steve Smith and Alex Carey in the afternoon session, before Taskin removed Beau Webster with a dream delivery. Returning for a fresh spell, Hasan quickly sent Mitchell Starc and skipper Pat Cummins back to the pavilion.
Third Session (Cleaning Up the Tail): Following the tea break, Hasan wrapped up the innings by removing the well-set Steve Smith and Nathan Lyon, bundling Australia out for 198 to complete his historic six-wicket haul.
