Ensuring the rights and human dignity of every citizen, regardless of religion or caste, depends on establishing a firm democratic foundation in the country, stated President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. The Head of State made these remarks during a courtesy meeting with a delegation from the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad at Bangabhaban on Sunday (September 13, 2026).
A 15-member delegation led by Santosh Sharma, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, attended the high-level meeting at the presidential residence. Addressing the leaders, President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir emphasized, “To steer the nation toward sustainable development and national progress, continuous democratic practice must be maintained, and state democratic institutions must be fortified.”
Underscoring public expectations for an effective and accountable governance system, the President cautioned that whenever democratic values weaken, safeguarding national independence, state sovereignty, and fundamental civil rights becomes increasingly difficult.
During the exchange, Santosh Sharma extended warm congratulations and best wishes to Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on behalf of the Hindu community following his assumption of the presidency. Furthermore, the delegation expressed gratitude to the government for providing administrative and security support to ensure the peaceful, orderly celebration of major religious festivals, including Janmashtami and Rath Yatra.
