The restriction was announced in a notice signed by Jagannath University Proctor Professor Dr. Mohammad Nasir Uddin on Wednesday night.
The notice stated that considering the overall law and order situation arising from three distinct organizations calling programs at the same venue and time on August 6, all meetings, rallies, and processions inside the campus will remain suspended until further notice. All active student organizations on campus have been officially informed of this decision.
According to university sources, leaders of the Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JnUCSU) had announced a program at 12:30 PM today at the Shahid Minar premises on the occasion of donating an ambulance.
Subsequently, Chhatra Dal called for a human chain and protest rally at the same venue and time, alleging terrorist activities, attacks, and mob violence by Islami Chhatra Shibir.
Meanwhile, a group of general students also announced a separate protest rally against an alleged attack on Jagannath University students by activists of Suhrawardy College Chhatra Dal.
Earlier on August 4, violent clashes broke out among activists of Chhatra Dal, Chhatra Shibir, and several other student organizations over programs organized to mark July Uprising Day. Several students, including a JnUCSU leader, were injured in the conflict.
Tensions have remained high on campus following the incident. To keep the situation under control, the administration had already bolstered security measures for August 5 and 6. As part of those ongoing measures, the administration has now enforced the suspension of all political programs and gatherings inside the campus indefinitely.
