India, led by captain Shubman Gill, secured a dominant 165-run victory over hosts Sri Lanka in their historic 600th Test match at the Galle International Stadium, driven by a stellar spin performance from left-arm spinner Manav Suthar. Set a formidable target of 372 runs in the second innings, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 206, giving India a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
Resuming the final day at 84/4, Sri Lanka mounted a brief recovery through a 95-run fifth-wicket partnership between captain Dhananjaya de Silva (59) and Sonal Dinusha (84). Ravindra Jadeja provided the crucial breakthrough by dismissing de Silva, after which Manav Suthar took total control of the match.
Suthar tore through the remaining lineup to finish with second-innings figures of 6/55. Combined with his four wickets in the first innings, the young spinner completed a magnificent 10-wicket match haul to seal the victory. Following this historic win, both teams will travel to Colombo for the second and final Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground.
