Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has instructed relevant authorities to step up nationwide cleanliness drives and public awareness campaigns to combat dengue, emphasizing that efforts must actively engage citizens rather than relying solely on government agencies.
The Prime Minister issued these directives on Sunday (September 6, 2026) during a high-level review meeting held at the Secretariat to assess the national dengue situation and outline immediate action plans. He underscored that building community-level resistance across every neighborhood is vital to eliminating Aedes mosquito breeding sites and containing vector-borne transmissions.
To implement this strategy, Prime Minister Rahman ordered the mobilization of local disaster management volunteers alongside field personnel from the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC), Rover Scouts, and the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society. He directed that these voluntary organizations lead localized sanitation operations and educate residents on maintaining clean households, clearing stagnant water, and improving waste disposal. Furthermore, the meeting prioritized expanding dedicated medical infrastructure, ensuring the availability of NS1 rapid antigen testing kits, and strengthening overall patient management capacity at the upazila hospital level.
