The Tareq Rahman-led government has approved the proposed 9th National Pay Scale for public service employees. The decision was confirmed during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tareq Rahman at the Secretariat on Monday (August 31, 2026).
Under the approved National Pay Scale 2026, the existing 20-grade framework remains intact, with revised basic salary structures. The basic pay for Grade-1 (highest grade) has been set at BDT 156,000, while Grade-20 (lowest grade) has been fixed at BDT 20,000.
The ratio between the lowest and highest basic pay has been narrowed from 1:1.945 to 1:1.78. Consequently, basic pay for the lowest grade increases by 142%, whereas the highest grade experiences a 100% rise.
The revised pay scale takes retroactive effect from July 1, 2026. Basic pay adjustments will be phased in through three installments by July 1, 2027, while updated allowances will take effect on January 1, 2028.
Furthermore, the government has authorized slab-based increases in net monthly pensions to support retired civil servants.
Slab-based net monthly pension hikes have been established across five tiers:
Up to BDT 9,000: 100% increase in net pension
BDT 9,001 – BDT 20,000: 75% increase in net pension
BDT 20,001 – BDT 30,000: 65% increase in net pension
BDT 30,001 – BDT 40,000: 60% increase in net pension
BDT 40,001 and above: 55% increase in net pension
