Hosting five-time world champion Brazil in Dhaka would fulfill the dreams of fans, but it will not bring any fundamental transformation to Bangladesh football, according to State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque. He made it clear that the government currently lacks the mindset or financial capacity to allocate significant state funds for a single exhibition match. Discussions regarding a friendly match or training session in Bangladesh arose following a visit by a delegation from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) to inspect venues in Dhaka ahead of their scheduled fixture in Kolkata during the September-October FIFA window. The State Minister clarified the government’s official position while speaking to reporters following an event at the Boxing Federation.
National Priorities & Fiscal Reality: Given heavy spending pressures in essential sectors like power and energy, public funds cannot be justified for a single exhibition match. Sustainable Football Development: While playing against Brazil would create immense fan excitement, it will not overhaul Bangladesh’s football infrastructure; administrative support will be granted only if the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) secures full corporate sponsorship.
