Overcoming diplomatic and transit hurdles, a special cargo flight carrying fresh nuclear fuel (uranium) for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna has landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. Science and Technology Minister Fakir Mahboob Anam confirmed to journalists that the delivery arrived late Friday night following a one-day delay caused by airspace clearance complications with Pakistan.
On Saturday morning (October 3, 2026), the consignment was dispatched from Dhaka Airport to the project site in Ishwardi, Pabna, via a heavily guarded motorcade escorted by military and law enforcement personnel.
The nuclear shipment was originally scheduled to arrive in Dhaka from Russia on Thursday. While pre-arrival preparations between Bangladesh and Russia were fully completed, the original flight had to be postponed at the last moment after Pakistan initially refused to grant transit permission through its airspace. Following swift diplomatic coordination and rerouting adjustments, necessary transit clearances were obtained, allowing the flight to proceed to Dhaka.
