Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, has stressed the importance of moving beyond past ties and focusing on future development to strengthen trade and bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday afternoon (September 1, 2026) following a meeting with the Minister and State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development, and Co-operatives at the Secretariat, he noted that both Dhaka and New Delhi are actively exploring ways to expand commercial cooperation.
Highlighting diplomatic equality between the neighboring nations, Trivedi remarked that neither country is superior or inferior, emphasizing India’s desire to foster deeper people-to-people connections. Mentioning that his visit to the ministry coincided with extending greetings on BNP’s founding anniversary, he added that an elected government understands Bangladesh’s domestic political landscape best.
Following the discussion, State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam informed reporters that the meeting primarily focused on exchanging experiences regarding local government elections. He also noted that conducting local elections under current circumstances remains a key challenge for the administration.
