A six-story Paying Guest (PG) residential building collapsed in the Satya Niketan area of South-West Delhi, India. The tragic incident occurred on Sunday afternoon (September 6, 2026), leaving several individuals feared trapped beneath the rubble.
According to a report by New Delhi-based broadcaster NDTV, the building functioned as a 75-bed PG facility. Located in close proximity to Delhi University’s South Campus, Satya Niketan is a densely populated hub for university students. Following the collapse, emergency teams including local police, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and multiple fire service units immediately launched search and rescue operations at the site.
Eyewitnesses estimated that at least 50 students were inside the building at the time of the collapse due to the Sunday holiday. According to preliminary reports, six individuals have been rescued alive from the debris, with three transferred to local hospitals for emergency medical treatment. Speaking to news agency ANI, a student present near the scene recalled hearing cries for help from beneath the collapsed structure. Delhi Police have initiated an investigation to determine whether structural defects or unauthorized construction work contributed to the building’s collapse.
