The resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan marks a historic victory for the youth-led movement spearheaded by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) in India. However, CJP founder and key strategist Abhijit Dipke emphasized that the struggle is far from over.
Reacting to the development, Dipke remarked, “This is just the beginning. The Cockroach Janata Party still has a long way to go.”
The youth movement erupted in response to widespread allegations of question paper leaks and systemic irregularities in national-level entrance examinations, including the NEET. Following weeks of intense protests and the minister’s eventual resignation, the CJP officially called off its demonstration. However, the organization clarified that it has no immediate plans to form a formal political party or enter mainstream politics, opting instead to expand its movement to the grassroots level.
In a video message shared on CJP’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday (July 26), Dipke expressed relief after weeks of relentless campaigning.
Reflecting on the arduous 37-day protest, Dipke stated:
“Today, I was finally able to sleep peacefully and wake up in my own bed—without the constant anxiety of what might happen by afternoon or evening. But the struggle hasn’t ended; it is just beginning. The Cockroach Janata Party has a long road ahead.”
The CJP was initially founded by Dipke in May as a satirical response to a comment made by the Chief Justice of India. It swiftly transformed into an unprecedented nationwide youth movement advocating for educational reforms, employment opportunities, and government accountability. Embracing the moniker “Cockroaches,” thousands of young protesters gathered at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar to stage continuous demonstrations.
The protesters called off their blockade only after securing the minister’s resignation—whom they held accountable for exam leak crises and student distress—alongside explicit assurances from the government that no legal action would be taken against the demonstrators.
