Leaving behind a previously cancelled process, fresh tenders are being initiated to appoint berth operators for six General Cargo Berths (GCB) at Chattogram Port. The decision to review the entire framework came after the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase rejected the initial proposal. A high-level committee has been formed by the Ministry of Shipping to draft recommendations and outline the terms for the new tender.
According to port sources, 12 contracting firms initially participated in the bidding process for loading and unloading goods across the six berths. From those applicants, the evaluation committee recommended six firms—one for each berth—with a combined proposed cost of BDT 264 crore.
However, during a meeting on July 22, the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase rejected the evaluation committee’s recommendations and directed the ministry to issue fresh tenders.
Following the Cabinet Committee’s directive, the Ministry of Shipping issued an official order on July 29, forming a 7-member committee led by the Home Minister to review the situation and submit recommendations.
