A fire broke out at the official residence of the High Commissioner of Pakistan in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Thursday (August 6) at approximately 4:55 AM.
Pakistan High Commissioner Imran Haider and his wife, Naima Imran, fell ill due to smoke inhalation during the incident. They were rescued and immediately admitted to United Hospital in Gulshan for medical care.
According to the Fire Service and local sources, the fire originated from an electrical short circuit and spread across parts of the building. Although the couple did not suffer direct burn injuries, excessive smoke exposure caused severe respiratory distress. Rescue teams responded promptly to the scene and transported them to the hospital.
Following the incident, the Pakistan High Commission sent an official diplomatic note (note verbale) to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh as per standard diplomatic protocol. An investigation is underway to assess the extent of the damage to the residence’s furniture and property.
