The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy of Iran has strongly challenged U.S. President Donald Trump’s assertion that the United States holds full operational control over the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. Citing the IRGC, Iran’s Fars News Agency reported on Monday (September 14, 2026) that security and navigation in the Strait remain entirely under Tehran’s jurisdiction, warning that any approaching U.S. naval vessel will face swift military resistance and targeted missile strikes.
Dismissing Washington’s claims, Colonel Ali Mohammadi, Deputy Political Commander of the IRGC Navy, issued a direct ultimatum: “If the Strait of Hormuz is truly under American control, let the U.S. Navy attempt to bring a single warship within a 100-kilometer radius of the Strait.”
The senior Iranian military official stressed that Washington remains fully aware of the tactical response Iranian forces will deploy should U.S. warships advance into the designated zone. He further noted that Iranian naval defenses have repeatedly intercepted foreign vessels attempting unauthorized approaches in recent days. The IRGC reiterated that comprehensive surveillance over foreign commercial and naval traffic in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman will continue without disruption, with immediate action taken against any maritime protocol violations.
