Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pledged to enact a stringent new law aimed at preventing question paper leaks in government recruitment and competitive examinations. In a video address to the nation delivered late Thursday night, PM Modi disclosed that he has already received a draft of the proposed legislation, which will be discussed during Friday’s Cabinet meeting.
The Prime Minister’s late-night address came just hours after he assured that those involved in the Medical Entrance Exam (NEET) paper leak would face swift prosecution through fast-track courts.
However, the opposition ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP) expressed dissatisfaction with the Prime Minister’s assurances regarding expedited trials. Immediately following Modi’s speech, the protesting party demanded the immediate resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, holding him accountable for the system’s overall failure.
“Paper Leaks Are Not a Minor Issue” — Modi Reassures Students
Reassuring affected candidates and their families, Prime Minister Modi stated in his video message:
“My dear friends, I fully understand that a question paper leak is no ordinary or minor issue. Such crimes plunge millions of students and their parents into immense distress and uncertainty. This is precisely why we have taken several decisive steps over the past two and a half months. Key perpetrators behind the racket have been arrested and are currently behind bars.”
The Prime Minister further noted that relevant departments worked tirelessly to submit a draft policy proposal to him.
The draft proposal includes provisions for setting up fast-track courts or special tribunals alongside exemplary punitive measures for offenders. The draft will be finalized following consultations with senior ministers at Friday’s Cabinet meeting, after which the government aims to table and pass the bill in Parliament as swiftly as possible.
