Iran will not retreat from its nuclear energy program despite international sanctions and external political pressure from foreign powers. Mohammad Eslami, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), asserted that acquiring and utilizing nuclear technology is a sovereign right of Iran, and no foreign power holds the authority to deprive the nation of it.
He made these remarks on Sunday (October 11, 2026) during an international conference in Tehran, as reported by Iran’s official state news agency, IRNA.
Sovereign Right to Nuclear Technology: Mohammad Eslami emphasized that the acquisition and development of peaceful nuclear technology is a fundamental right of the Iranian people. He reiterated that external pressure or international sanctions will fail to deprive Iran of advancing its domestic capabilities.
Critique of U.S. Double Standards: Sharp Criticism was directed at Washington’s foreign policy, with Eslami pointing out that while the United States actively expands and modernizes its own nuclear capability, it routinely seeks to block other sovereign nations from utilizing peaceful nuclear energy.
Ambitious 20,000 MW Nuclear Power Target: Despite regional instability and threats of conflict, Iran remains committed to its national energy goals. Tehran stands fully prepared to execute its long-term strategy of generating 20,000 megawatts (MW) of nuclear electricity nationwide.
