In an effort to alleviate the severe humanitarian crisis and sustain critical civilian services across the besieged Gaza Strip, the State of Qatar has signed an agreement with the United Nations to deliver approximately 1.3 million liters of fuel.
According to an official statement issued by the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday (September 17, 2026), the fuel will be provided as a humanitarian grant facilitated in coordination with UN agencies.
The fuel shipment comes as part of the expansion of Qatar’s ongoing emergency relief program for Gaza. Prolonged conflict, damaged infrastructure, and strict blockades have collapsed local power grids, leaving critical public institutions almost entirely dependent on diesel generators.
Distributed through key UN humanitarian bodies—including UNICEF, UN OCHA, and UNRWA—the fuel grant is designated primarily to power intensive care units (ICUs) and emergency wards across major hospitals. Additionally, it will power municipal water desalination and pumping facilities, sewage management systems, and emergency transport vehicles delivering food and medical relief.
Doha stressed that the initiative aims to prevent catastrophic public health failures, benefiting an estimated 2.1 million Palestinian residents reliant on fuel-powered infrastructure. Official Qatari records note that Doha provided nearly 30 million liters of fuel assistance to Gaza between October 2023 and early 2026.
