Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has openly and unequivocally described Israel’s military campaign in the besieged Gaza Strip as “genocide,” issuing a fierce condemnation while calling for a full arms embargo against Israel and fundamental reform of the UN Security Council.
Delivering a powerful address at the high-level general debate of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81) in New York, the Spanish leader reaffirmed Madrid’s unwavering commitment to international law and peace.
“Spain unequivocally condemns without reservation the ruthless genocide that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues to commit in Gaza,” Prime Minister Sánchez stated before world leaders.
Highlighting Spain’s consistent anti-war doctrine, Sánchez emphasized that whether in Ukraine, Lebanon, or Iran, Madrid opposes all acts of military aggression regardless of where they occur. He confirmed that his government maintains strict economic sanctions on Russia and has implemented a comprehensive arms embargo prohibiting both the import and export of military equipment to Israel.
Furthermore, Sánchez made it clear that Spain will not permit its territory, airspace, or military facilities to be used by any nation conducting military operations in violation of international law and the UN Charter.
