Ahead of the upcoming U.S. midterm elections, the Donald Trump administration has significantly expanded the United States’ military footprint in the Middle East. Aimed at reinforcing regional security and broadening strategic military options regarding Iran, the Pentagon has ordered the deployment of a third aircraft carrier, the USS Theodore Roosevelt, alongside an additional Marine division under the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) area of responsibility.
According to reports from The Jerusalem Post and USNI News, the powerful naval and marine task forces dispatched from San Francisco and San Diego are currently underway toward the Middle East.
Per the Pentagon’s transit outline, the structural breakdown of the deployed naval assets includes:
USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71): Departs from San Francisco, with the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier slated to relieve the USS George Washington currently operating within the CENTCOM theater.
Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group: Departs from San Diego, integrated with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU). This strike group carries approximately 2,200 Marines, supported by nearly 2,000 sailors across three amphibious warships.
Current Arabian Sea Presence: Existing naval assets already operating in the Arabian Sea include the USS George Washington, the USS George H.W. Bush, and the USS Boxer Amphibious Ready Group (carrying the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit).
